No Self-Service

Just like every parent in the world, Mae and I sometimes think that we have a little genius on our hands. But on other days, we're not so sure.

Jesse is thirteen and one half months old. And yet, he seems to have no idea how to hold his milk bottle on his own. As you can imagine, we have to hold the bottle for him at every feed. Occasionally, we try to educate the boy. We'd pick him his hands and have him hold the bottle. But that never works. He just pulls away. Other times we just give him the whole bottle. But instead of tipping it to drink, he'd just gnaw at the nipple. It's frustrating!

Yet, his motor skills seem to be fine. He can always open and close a mineral water bottle on his own. Heck, he can even stuff it in Mommy's mouth with deadly precision - though I suspect this is a defense mechanism against a nagging mother. Heh!

When it comes to the milk bottle, we wonder is he's a little dopey. It's either that or he's just incredibly smart and conniving. I mean, why hold a bottle when you can have someone hold it for you?

I'm considering taping the bottle to his hands. If that doesn't work, at least we'd still be entertained.

  11. If you dont train him when he was 6 months, you will have to do it.
As of now, hehehe, tape his hand to the bottle or tell him to hold his bottle, maybe he will understand.
Last option, train him to sip from a sippy cup.

  19. Does anyone here have any comments on the use of pacifiers? How long should we let baby's use pacifiers to soothe themselves? Is there like a cut off age or something? I would greatly appreciate your inputs.
I hope you don't mind me posing this question on your tag board James.

  22. i think it's ok to let babies use pacifiers. The usual cutoff is about 3-4 months, when they still don't know what the hell is happening. BUT that being said, even if baby is 2-3 yrs old, still can throw away pacifier, claim ignorance...bub will cry for 1 week, but get over it anyway... ;-)

  23. No GreenApple, we can't tape him anymore. These days when we try to, he'll stop everything he's doing and try to grab the videocam.
We will have our revenge in 20-30 yrs time, Egghead. Hehehh...
Yeah, JoeC, it's never fun when you have to work for it.
Give little Stewie a break Gwen, he's probably still to small to hold his own bottle!
    Hopefully that's it, Visithra. :)
I know, Sue. And sometimes Jesse grabs his lampin with brute force that we worry that our family lineage end here.
    True, Babe. Enjoying. :)
I do too, Jefferene. It's usually times like this that I like to instill my propaganda on the boy. Hehehhhh...
He will refuse milk, MOTT!??? Oh man...
Meng: Ugh! In good time, ok. :)
I guess you're right, Michelle. But we did try when he was younger. Guess we just didn't stick with it long enough.
Stop making me jealous, Miche.
Rajan: Erm... 2-hole titty cups? Hehehh...
Indeed Deepsy. Hmmm.... looks like both Rajan and you are all set for parenthood.
Hahh Wilwolf, if my boy grows up and expects me to hold his mug, I'll just drink his beer.
    Must be that, Maria!
Yes Zara's Mum, and meanwhile his loyal subjects continue to serve him.
We need pampering too mah, Lucia!
No worries, Revlon. I think to each his own. Some babies hang on to their pacifiers for a long time. Just be sure you get those Orthodontic Pacifiers that won't leave him with buckteeth. Jesse has never been on the pacifier and he's fine too.
Too smart for his parents, MamaBoK!
Yes Piggy, he's definitely lazy. Takes after his mommy. Heheheheh!!!!
Hahah, MOTT, yes a lot of parents throw away their kid's pacifiers.

  26. LOL! I emphatise because Emily won't hold her own bottle too and she's already one year old! She used to hold it for a while though she always got tired after a while and started letting go of the bottle. I'd then hold it for her until she finished her milk. After a while, she got lazy and just wouldn't hold it at all. Now she's going through a phase where she just won't eat any solids and cry when she has to drink milk. So it's back to square one where I have to hold her in my arms while she drinks her milk. Sigh!
