Revenge

Last weekend, Mae suggested that we catch Shrek 2 at the cinemas. Imagine that. A movie outing initiated by Mae! *gasp* That's almost as rare as getting struck by lightning twice. Anyway, not one to look a gift horse (or should I say Donkey) in the mouth, I'm up and about very quickly - as quickly as I can move on a Sunday afternoon.

But alas, we had not anticipated the disappointment that awaited us.

We got to the cinema but we didn't stand a chance. Every movie was sold out for the rest of the day! No tickets whatsoever. I was shattered. Like a broken man, I walked aimlessly hoping for a miracle. But deep in my heart I knew; these were not the miracles that God intended for man. And so Mae and I humbly retreated back to the comfort of our small DVD collection.

It's the school holidays. And the schoolkids are everywhere. Like a swarm of locusts.

You see them looming over the horizon and the next thing you know, they've eaten everything. The parking spaces. The movie tickets. The Sinful Super Double Choc ice-cream. Everything!

Today is Friday. We're trying again tonight. But it looks bleak. The schoolkids are gonna be there. And they've got a headstart over us. While I sit here writing this entry, the schoolkids are already at the mall waiting to pounce on all the available movie tickets. *sigh* And we can't even get through the phone or internet booking channels.

This is why we have kids.

Someday Baby's gonna take revenge for us. Someday these schoolkids are gonna grow up and turn into the working stiffs that we are now. And our kids will be the locusts.

Ahh. Revenge is sweet.

  1. I know! Damn pesky kids! Because of them, I haven't been able to see either Shrek2, "Lusa" or Harry Pothead... GSC Tele-booking is always engaged and TGV KLCC hotline is not even working... Waited for an hour queuing up last Sunday, only 2 find out EVERY ticket was sold out... then why still open counter lah?.. damn holidays..

  3. If you plan to go to GSC MidValley, you can now book tickets by SMS. No more waiting for an open phone line! But I think you need to book at least a day before, to be safe :)

  7. Better to wait than to have a sore neck from getting front row seats in the cinema. ;)

  8. Good Luck. I told Mae to come to Inner Jinjang to watch. Esp if you watch it on weekdays, you basically pay RM5-RM6 per tix and get the entire cinema all by yourself! .. I watched The Last Samurai with only 10 ppl (including me) in the cinema! Woo Hoo! That is what I call Value For Money.

  9. I once queued up at gsc midvalley for gold class tickets for LoTR 3 at 7.30a.m and the ticket counter only opened at 10a.m.! Pathetic I know... but it was impossible to book online or call through! But believe it or not, when i reached at 7.30, there were already about 30 people ahead of me and it was a weekday!! Don't people work anymore? It was worth it though... Tira and I got the last two tickets for the day
Good luck on your quest to get tickets in the future James... you and mae can always bring a stool and wait it out at 7.30a.m

  11. No idea, Sashi, coz the webpage doesn't say. Oh, and you have to be a Maxis/Hotlink subscriber to get this service. Sheesh. (Needless to say, I'm not a Maxis subscriber ;) )

It was superb, Dee!! But I think we'll all need to see it a second time - to see all those subtle little parodies we missed. Did anyone notice that Spiderman parody? :)

  14. Hey folks, we managed to catch Shrek 2 on Sat. Thanks to Mae's sis who managed to book for us at Summit Subang. Hallelujah for siblings!!
Yeah Sashi, the only good thing to come out of the School Holidays is the good morning traffic. :)
We did, ryuu! But all the booking channels (SMS, Phone, Internet) we're all clogged up.
No such luck for us, Irene. The systems were down for days.
Hmm... Olivia, unlike you, I do not have a band of yes-men at my beck and call!
What in the world were you doing in Midvalley at 9:30am, sarah??
Can't wait lah, Strizzt. These days, any window of opportunity for a movie outing must be seized immediately!

  15. Nah, I wont let my kids be locusts, just teach them to be smart in using the latest tech and gadgets so they wont have to queue up buying tix in cinema (perhaps those kids finds it cool to line up, at the same time 'cuci mata')... :)
